“King Mohammed VI succeeded his father in 1999, but it seems less likely that Morocco will go the way of Tunisia, as the young king is generally popular and the country is freer than most of the Maghreb. There were demonstrations on 20 February, some in the new part of Marrakech, and again a month later when it was felt that the King had reneged on promises of constitutional reform. But Prince Charles and Camilla visited on 4 April; and, despite the bombing in a cafe in Marrakech on 28 April, there are no Foreign Office restrictions for Morocco – the incident was attributed to an Al-Qaeda splinter group, rather than a ground-swell of anti-tourist feeling”

In brief, Marrakech is safe and certainly a lot safer than London in the UK. In the aftermath of the bomb in Place Djemma El Fna, there is heightened security in the whole of Morocco. In addition, the vast majority of the Moroccan population are appalled by the incident and are regularly marching in support of peace as a result.
